Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Here Are Our Favorite Nuggets of Advice for Job Seekers

When asked to share their favorite piece of advice for job seekers, here’s what the team Advent had to say…

Be yourself! Own your gifts and promote them with examples. Admit your faults without highlighting them. Embrace the constant change we see in the marketplace, and above all, remain PERSISTENT!

My favorite quote: “Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race.” Calvin Coolidge

Mary Younggren, Owner/Principal

Every person you meet is a potential door to a new opportunity!

Michelle O’Kelley, Director of Client Services

Use NUMBERS as tools on your resume to highlight accomplishments.

Callie Kistler, Staffing Account Manager

Job seeking is stressful, and it can be difficult to stay positive, motivated and energized. It’s important to take care of yourself and continue to do things you enjoy every day. It’s hard to fake positivity. Your attitude and energy are more transparent to others – and more important in the selection process – than you would think.

Susan Isebrand, Marketing & Communications

“The best people don’t have jobs – they have responsibilities” Unknown

Sue Miller, Office Manager/Client Services

My advice: Stay positive during your job search. Positivity is contagious and leads to great things. Follow your dreams, find your passion, and go after it. “If you can DREAM it, you can DO it” Walt Disney

Emily Elkin, HR Assistant

For your interview – be sure to put your phone away, keep responses to questions one minute in length or less, dress appropriately, and bring copies of your resume with you!

Victoria Temiz, Digital Recruiting Director

Your interpersonal and communication skills are just as important as your technical abilities.  I see many talented people get passed over because they underwhelm in the interview process.  Be confident, be talkative, ask questions, be respectful, and most important…be on time and professional.

Joe Rosso, Business Development Account Manager

One of my favorite nuggets of information for career advice “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.” Confucius

Kelsey Feller, Staffing Account Coordinator

Practice answers aloud to interview questions without notes. Don’t memorize your notes, recall from your experiences- you lived it, you know what to say.
